Chapter 1 - The Beginning

Chesapeake Grounds Inc. is a second generation family owned business. Founded in 1978 by James and Betty Clifton trading as James M. Clifton and Co. Our niche market at that time was federal grounds maintenance contracts. We spent the next 22 years providing the federal government with the highest quality grounds maintenance services possible. The services we provided included: Grounds maintenance services, Turf and Ornamental maintenance programs, total tree care, landscape design and installation, applying industrial herbicides, and clearing and grading. As government budgets started to decrease we found that no matter how good we did our job, there was always someone cheaper and the quality of our work no longer mattered. We were eventually forced out of the market we specialized in because we would not compromise our work standards.

Chapter 2 - Reconstruction

In 2001 under the new owners Michael and Sue Clifton, Chesapeake Grounds Inc. needed to be reevaluated and target the sector of the market that would best fit Chesapeake Grounds Inc. and what we could offer our clients. Multi-family housing and commercial properties were a perfect fit for us in the private sector. We take great pleasure in transforming properties into beautiful places to live and work. Through a professional approach we can greatly improve the aesthetic appeal of the property and increase the value of the asset at a competitive price. Since we left the government arena we have built some great relationships with our property managers based on our professional business ethic and the quality service that we can provide.
